Left Hand Man Home Services
Why left-hand-man instead of right-hand-man? Read on.
Renovating my old house in The Blue Mountains turned into an unexpected challenge. A stream of contractors did work that didn’t measure up—if they showed up at all. It’s not my intention to disparage the skilled. I just couldn’t find them.
Coming from a family of makers and builders, I set about doing everything myself. From framing to tiling to drywall to baseboards to plumbing to wiring to fixing the problems left behind by renovators.
Then my neighbours came calling. For help installing lights, sinks, toilets, ceiling fans, closet organizers, and trim. And to plug holes in drywall and swap old door hardware out for new. And for those things we never get around to. Like basement shelving, or, a personal favourite, transforming garage space from chaos to calm with proper storage and shelving.
And if you’re away from your home for extended periods, I’ll check in to make sure all is well—no one needs the cold sweats at 3 am worrying about a sump pump.
As an active documentary filmmaker—a Gemini winner and multi-time Canadian Screen Award nominee—I’m not your typical handyman. Hence left-hand-man instead of right. I do it because I enjoy the work and because I believe in the antiquated notion that honest, reputable work benefits everyone in the community.
My rates are reasonable, flexible for seniors, and I’m willing to compromise if you’re truly in need.
I’d love to hear from you—whether you need help or not.
